Ray Garmon is a Tremendous Writer
The author, Ray Garmon, is a shrewd observer of human nature and deftly uses that skill to weave an entertaining crime novel, populated with some of the most original characters you'll ever come across in the pages of a book. Yes, good is pitted against evil, but on so many levels. This absorbing novel is unbelievably entertaining and well-written. Give this one a chance--it's a real gem!

The March to Zion: United States Policy and the Founding of Israel
Published in Hardcover by Texas A&M University Press (March, 1980)
Author: Kenneth Ray Bain
Average review score:

Great Quick overview
This is a very well structured overview of the basic history of the middle east. It gives a balanced account, mostly centered on the United States' role. One gets a sinking feeling that Harry Truman could have predicted where we would wind up 50 years on...

Best Available Book on US and Creation of Israel
This work provides more insight into the development of US policies toward Israel than any other available. Extremely well written! Provocative and entertaining, it traces the development of US cultural attitudes toward the emergence of Israel and the Arab world and the development of policies during the Truman administration. An excellent chapter on US oil policy in the Middle East and the Palestine Question. Highly recommended.

Marriage Plus

Author: Ray Mossholder
Average review score:

Marriage Plus-A great read for any couple
I first read this book as a single man in college, it was required reading for a counseling class that I was taking. It opened up my eyes to so many areas of marriage and relationships that I had not seen before. Mossholder's clear, cut to the chase point of view really helped me understand my future wife a lot more. I suggest this book to anyone whether you be single, engaged or celebrating your 25 anniversary.

It has brought new life to my marriage.....AMEN
When I recently began attending the local Assemblies of God Church I was moved to pray for a miracle in my marriage. I was so lost not knowing what God's word had to say about marriage and sex, that I was ashamed to even think about it, much less do it! Then, after a spirit filled Sunday Evening service I was glancing at some books that were avaliable for purchase in our Church Lobby. As I picked up the book, Glory To GOD, I knew it was what I needed. I took it home and have read it from cover to cover, sharing it JOYFULLY with my husband of 14 years. Our life has forever changed. Our world is forever new. No Guilt....No Shame... PRAISE GOD! I am passing it on to everyone I know. Thank You !!!!

Masters of the Seven Rays: Their Past Lives and Reappearance
Published in Paperback by Apollo Publishing Pty. Ltd. (20 June, 2000)
Author: Phillip Lindsay
Average review score:

The Masters Revealed!
Phillip Lindsay has written a very useful book on the Masters of Wisdom and the role they play in world affairs (with photos included). Appendices include Seven Ray Tabulations, Astrology and the Seven Rays, and a great Glossary. This is essential reading for anyone wanting to know more about the Masters - the great ones who guide and guard humanity.

Phillip Lindsay, Masters of the Seven Rays
This is a really interesting book about the Masters of Wisdom, who guide Humanity in accordance with the Divine Plan. It begins from the cosmic perspective, describing the role and purpose of the Hierarchy and how the energies of the Seven Rays work through them. The author gives the topic a philosophical context by dealing with such questions as karma and free will. And why all of the Masters discussed here are male! There are descriptions of the Masters themselves as they have lived on the Earth over a number of incarnations. These chapters are interesting and easy to read, enlivened by description and anecdote. The book also contains very useful appendices on Astrology and on the Seven Rays; as well as a helpful glossary.

Mont Saint Michel and Chartres (Penguin Classics)
Published in Paperback by Penguin USA (Paper) (June, 1986)
Authors: Henry Adams and Ray Carney
Average review score:

A disguised autobiography
A reading of Richard Brookhiser's recent (and highly recommended) *America's First Dynasty* sent me back to *Mont Saint Michel and Chartres*, a book I hadn't read in thirty years. I'm glad I returned to it, because a few years have, I trust, put me in a better position to appreciate what's going on in the book.

On one level, the most obvious one, Adam's book is a sometimes idiosyncratic history of Medieval art, literature, and religion that takes as its center of gravity the great Gothic cathedrals of the period--structures that Adams thinks sum up what the middle ages are all about. To read the book on this level alone is fine. It provides intriguing insights into, for example, courtly love and the cult of Mary.

But I now believe that, at a deeper level, the book is disguised autobiography on the one hand and a backhanded history of Adams's own time on the other. An at times overwhelming sense of nostalgia permeates the book. In reading Adams on the 11th century mystics, the debates of the schoolmen, the chansons of the troubadours, and the unified worldview of the middle ages, one can almost hear him sigh with longing to return to a world which, he thinks, was whole, unfractured, and pure--a world, as the medievals themselves would've said, which reflects "integritas." This reveals a great deal about the restless, unquiet nature of Henry Adams the man. But it also reveals the restless, unquiet nature of the modern era which spawned and molded him: the gilded age, the fast-paced first wave of capitalism, secularism, and consumerism, which has no center of gravity, no art, no tradition. And even though we claim to be living in a "postmodern" age, it seems to me that a great deal of the qualities Adams deplored in his own times are still with us and account for our own sense of homelessness.

*Mont Saint Michel and Chartres,* then, is more than a quaint turn-of-the-last-century history. Read correctly, it's also a mirror of our present discontent. Highly recommended.

A wonderful intro to Gothic cathedrals and the Middle Ages
Twenty years ago, I first read this book and was driven by Adams' compelling study of these two cathedrals to spend a decade studying Medieval and Renaissance literature. Adams at times finds his enthusiasm for his subjects embarrassing, but gives in to it nevertheless and writes a brilliant and joyous paean to these cathedrals and to the spirit that created them. Rereading this book now, twenty years later, I remember the thrill of reading it the first time, and it sparks my own enthusiasm all over again.

Music Listening Today
Published in Paperback by Breton Pub Co (June, 1999)
Authors: Charles, Phd Hoofer, Mary Ray, Phd Johnson, and Charles R. Hoffer
Average review score:

Don't Miss It
Unquestionably the most understandable, interesting, even entertaining text for introduction to music courses. It would also be an excellent gift for anyone wanting to know more about classical, ethnic and contemporary music. The CD ROMs add immeasurably to the book, providing graphic illustrations of the ideas in the text. An outstanding book.

The world of music at your fingertips, with 2 CDs
This is a beautiful book. Anyone who wants to learn more about music -- its notation, its instrumentation, its history, how and why it moves us -- will enjoy this book immensely. It discusses music theory in understandable terms, covering rhythm, melody, harmony, dynamics, timbre, and organization. The instruments of the classical orchestra are all explained, as are folk instruments. In fact, folk music from around the world is discussed as a prelude to the main sections on the so-called "art music" of Europe and America. I especially liked the Listening Guides. They correspond to tracks on the two CDs that come with the book. The author explains what's going on at each important part of a piece of music, with timings provided so you can follow along, and even provides musical notation showing important themes. I don't read music, but I enjoyed being able to see the score of a familiar strain and following along with the Listening Guide to better understand what the music was about. There are also biographies of each important composer and beautiful full-color reproductions of art from the period being discussed. The book also includes an appendix about musical notation (which if I had studied better would probably give me musical literacy). It also has a very useful glossary and index. This book is obviously a college textbook, but anyone who wants to increase his or her understanding and appreciation of the world music will benefit from reading it.

Mustang Designer: Edgar Schmued and the P-51
Published in Paperback by Smithsonian Institution Press (March, 2000)
Author: Ray Wagner
Average review score:

While this is a great book, I was hoping for info on ...
the history of conic sections at North American Aviation (NAA). NAA was using conics in '32, Schmued was (at the least) an enthusiastic supporter of conics, and his P-51 Mustang was the first aircraft to be completely defined by conics.

Roy A. Liming worked with Schmued to mathematically analyze the Mustang's shapes, tangents and curvatures. Schmued wrote an introduction to Liming and Hartley's series of articles for Aero Digest explaining the use of conics. These articles (along with the success of the Mustang) showed that NAA was ahead of it's time during WWII.

Great reading for aviation enthusiasts and military buffs.
Mustang Designer: Edgar Schmued And The P-51 is the complete story behind the development and deployment of one of the most famous fighter aircraft of World War II. Beginning with the choosing of fighter designs in the formative years of 1935 to 1939 covering P-30 to P-50 craft, author Ray Wagner presents the birth of the Mustang in 1940 as designed by Ed Schmued and North American Aviation. The various incarnations and variations of the Mustang are followed up to and including the early jet age years of 1945 to 1952 and the Northrop Aviation launch of a new fighter. A highly recommended design and development history, Mustang Designer is enhanced for the aviation enthusiast and military buff with an appendix, notes, glossary, bibliography and index.

Nationalism and Culture
Published in Hardcover by Black Rose Books (March, 1998)
Authors: Rudolf Rocker and Ray E. Chase
Average review score:

A splendid work
This book is magnificient. Rudolph Rocker, Anarchist, Syndicalist and libertarian thinker managed to put together in my opinion one of the all-time greatest works on the topics of Nationalism and its relation to culture. The product of over 30 years of work, this is Rocker's magnum opus. He disects the national state in all its manifestations to show how historically it has stifled cultural progress and is thoroughly reactionary in nature. Book 1 goes about tracing the evolution of nationalism and the creation of a centralized state with the race theory as its base to its logical conclusion in Nazi Germany. Also examined is the use of religion by Kings and Rulers of history as a tool in the exploitation of their subjects and the use of state power by religious leaders to cement their control. In Book 2 he demonst.rates how the great achievements of history have come about not as a national creation but precisely the opposite through the sharing of cultural achievments by different peoples. He presents a conclusive argument that the level of cultural achievement of a people is inverse to the level of political centralization of any area, using the examples of ancient Greek culture and the political system used there and the Roman empire with its vast, all powerful state, devoid of free expression and lack of original thought and artistic creation. Since this work is so extensive, I can hardly begin to point out everything said in it. While this may seem to be a dry philosophical book, it is not. Rockers style is lively and enjoyable. This book is a treasure of free thought in an era of extreme persecution(originally published in exile shortly after Hitlers rise to power) and demonstrates that if we as a people are ever going to achieve freedom and the flowering of culture it is going to be at the expense of National States and how the solution to the problems of the authors time and ours is a non-statist, anti-capitalist anarchist way of organizing society. Highly Recomended!

This review is based on the previous 1978 edition of N&C.

Amazing insight -- pre WW2 !
Rudolf Rocker foresaw what would happen in Nazi germany and hence the title of the book. If the important people of his time would have had this much insight ... lots of bloodshed would have been avoided. These days it is especially interesting to see the USA foreign policy and US television helping a cultural holocaust along. The nationalism in the USA is horrible. This book points out what nationalism is and does.

Natural Limits to Biological Change
Published in Paperback by Zondervan (September, 1984)
Authors: Lane Lester and Ray G. Bohlin
Average review score:

Great book
This book takes an in-depth lookat genetic variation found in nature. The authors examine the evidence from all the different sides, compare the different theories on the issue, e.g, Darwinism, Punctuated Equilbrium, and Creation. I have read books and articles on this subject from Mayr, Gould, Stanley, Mendel, and others. This book ranks right up there in quality. Moreover it is even better in same cases as it doesn't push its dogma down your throat like some others do, but allows the reader to make up his own mind.

Take a look at this book if you have ever had any questions about speciation or biological variaiton. You may find this book hard to get a hold of but it is well worth it. Definite 5 star book.

Good book, very technical
This book was a good defense against both Darwinism and punctuated equilibrium. This was the first book I read on the subject of evolution, and although it was a bit technical, it was very explanatory. It is a good book to give to your biology professor or someone who wants a good defense of creationism without unscientific remarks. It was written by two very qualified doctorates in biology and genetics. I would like to see an evolutionist try and analyze this book for its "unscientific" behavior, which many evolutionists claim against creationists.
